Ramayana (Sanskrit) - the expedition of Rama, i.e. Eamachandra, Vishnu's seventh avatar - the title of Valmlki's great epic poem in Sanskrit, containing 24,000 verses in seven books or Kdndas. The main theme is the expedition of Rama through the Deccan to Ceylon to recover his wife Sita.
