Nicolai

Nicolai, Chkistopheb Frederic (1733-1811), a bookseller and author, a native of Berlin, is chiefly distinguished for his criticisms on German literature. He laboured, in co-operation with Mendelssohn and Lessing, to reform the national taste. His greatest critical work, the General German Library, appeared in 1765. He underrated Goethe and attacked Kant.
