Lucullus

Lucullus, L. Licinius (circa 110-58 B.C.), Roman general, served as quaestor under Sulla in the first Mithradatic War (88-84), elected consul in 74, he received Cilicia as his province, and prosecuted the war against Mithradates, expelling him from Pontus, and defeating Tigranes, King of Armenia, with whom he had taken refuge. But the insubordination of his troops prevented him from bringing the war to a successful close, and in 66 he was superseded by Pompey. After his return to Rome he became noted for his luxurious mode of life.
