Gramont

Gramont, Philibert, Comte de, a French courtier (1621-1707), was the descendant of the husband of Henry IV.'s mistress. He distinguished himself in war, and his handsome person and witty mind made him a favourite at the Court of Louis XIV., from which, however, his dissoluteness caused him to be banished in 1662. He was received with open arms at the Court of Charles II., where he rivalled all in licentiousness. He mturied Miss Hamilton, and her brother Anthony wrote Gramont's memoirs.
