Dilettante

Dilettante (Ital. from Lat. deleetare, to delight), a patron of art, an amateur: often used in a half-contemptuous sense. The "Society of Dilettanti," however, which was founded in 1734 to promote the taste for ancient classical art in England, has done excellent service by facilitating exploration and by the publication of drawings of relics of ancient Greek art.
