Derwentwater James Radcliffe

Derwentwater, James Radcliffe, Earl of, an amiable but unfortunate Jacobite partisan, who was born in London in 1689, being an illegitimate grandson of Charles II. He took a rash part in the premature rising of 1715, and, starting early in October of that year, he was forced to surrender within five weeks. In spite of great efforts made to obtain his pardon, he was executed on Tower Hill in February, 1716, and his estates were confiscated. They formed, in 1735, the endowment of the Greenwich Naval Hospital.
