Benedetti, Count Vincent, was born in 1817 at Bastia. After serving France as ambassador in Turin and Berlin, he created a sensation by his draft of a secret treaty between France and Prussia, published on the breaking out of the war in 1870. This was followed in 1871 by a pamphlet entitled Ma Mission en Prusse, in which he laid the blame for the war on Bismarck's shoulders.
