Baias

Baias, Byas, or Payas, a town in Asiatic Turkey on the E. coast of the Gulf of Scandercon, in the villayet of Aleppo. The ruins near it are those of the ancient Issus, and the neighbouring river perhaps bore that name, and on its banks was fought the battle in which Alexander defeated Darius Codomannus in 333 B.C. There is a poor harbour and a Turkish castle.
