Ardrossan

Ardrossan, a seaport of Ayrshire, Scotland, 16 miles north from. Ayr, and 21 south-west from Glasgow, The harbour with its clocks is one of the best on the west coast. Iron foundries and ship-building yards are established here, and there is a considerable trade in coal and iron. Steamers run to Ireland and elsewhere. Many people visit the place for bathing in the summer. On a hill stand the remains of an old castle taken by Wallace in 1297 from the English.
