Antipater

Antipater, or Antipas, an Idumaean, who won the good offices of Julius Caesar, and obtained from him the government of Jerusalem for his eldest son Phasael, and that of Galilee for his younger son, afterwards known as Herod the Great. He was poisoned by Malichus in 43 B.C. [For his grandson see Herod Antipas.]
