Utahs (Utes), North American aborigines, forming a main division of the Shoshonean (Snake) family; formerly widespread, but never numerous, in the Colorado uplands, and North New Mexico, parts of California and Nevada, and in Utah, which state is named from them. Chief tribal groups: Gos Utes, still at large in Utah; Pai Utes, scattered over South-East California and South-West Nevada; Utahs, some in the Ute Agency, Colorado, some in the Ouray and Uintah Reserves, Utah.
