Thring

Thring, REV. EDWARD (1821-87), educationalist, graduated at King's College, Cambridge, was elected a fellow, and ordained in 1846. In 1853 he became headmaster of Uppingham School, and held the post for many years, during which he published some excellent works, including Thoughts on Life Science (1869) and The Theory and Practice of Teaching (1883). His Elements of Grammar (1851) has passed through many editions. His biography, by J. H. Skrine, was published in 1890.
