Tate, NAHUM (1652-1715), was born in Dublin. In 1692 he succeeded Shadwell as poet-laureate. He is remembered only as the anthor of a metrical version of the Psalms (1696), which was gradual1y adopted in churches in place of that of Sternhold and Hopkins.
