Shilling. as an English sliver coin, dates from Henry VII. The present shilling is the twentieth of a pound sterling, and is equivalent to 12 pence, and approximputely to 25 cents American, 1.25 francs French, and 1.11 marks German. It contains 87.272 grains silver, of a fineness of .925, the remainder consisting of copper alloy.
