Seven Wise Men

Seven Wise Men, the name given to those Greek sages who, before Socrates had laid the foundations of moral philosophy, expressed the highest wisdom of the time in a number of pithy aphorisms. Their names were Solon of Athens. Thales of Miletis, Pittacus of Mitylene, Bias of Priene. Chilon of Sparta (author of the famous "Know thyself"), Cleobulus, Tyrant of Lindus in Rhodes, and Periander, Tyrant of Corinth.
