Sebaceous Gland

Sebaceous Gland. Sebaceous glands are met wlth in most parts of the skin, being very numerous in situations where there is abundant growth of hair, but entirely absent from the palms of the hand and soles of the feet. They secrete a soft ointment-like substance and usualy discharge into a hair follicle, the secretion serving to lubricate the hair. Cysts sometimes develop in association with the blocking of the orifice of a sebaceous gland. These sebaceous cysts are frequently met with in the scalp.
