Scot, MICHAEL, an occult writer of the 13th century, was born at Balwearie in Fifeshire, and was believed to be a magician on account of his knowledge of the occult sciences. He travelled in France, Germany, Norway, and England, and is referred to by Dante as a magician. He commented on Aristotle, and wrote other works, which are believed to have been buried with 11im. He sought the philosopher's stone for many years, dying in 1293.
