Pistoia, an Italian town in the province of Florence, near the left bank of the Ombrone and 20 miles N.W. of Florence, with which it is connected by a railway. It has lofty walls, squares,. and good streets. The ancient cathedral is faced with white marble and has some valuable sculptures and paintings, and there is u church with a fine dome. Silks and woollens are manufactured,. and pistols were first made here.
