Pamphlet, a short literary work consisting of one sheet or a few sheets stitched together, but not bound, sometimes with a paper wrapper. The news-books of the 16th and 17th centuries containing news-ballads and verses on topics of the day were culled pamphlets. Political pamphlets were much commoner than they are now before the development of regular journalism.
