Mieris

Mieris, a family of Leyden painters, of whom Feans van Mieris (1635-81) was the best. He had many patrons, including Cosmo III. of Tuscany and the Elector-Palatine, and rapidly grew wealthy. His pictures are small and polished, but have not the softness of his master, Gerard Dow. William, his son (1662-1747), imitated his father, as did also other members of the family.
