Lowth

Lowth, Robert (1710-87), a learned English prelate, was educated at Winchester and Oxford, where he became professor of Poetry in 1741. He was appointed Bishop of Oxford in 1766, and of London in 1777. His chief work was his Lectures onthe Sacred Poetry of the Hebrews (1753), written in Latin.
