Lemures

Lemures, in Roman mythology the spirits of the departed. The good were supposed to become Lares (q.v.) and wicked Larvae, with power to injure the living. On the nights of May 9, 11, and 13 ceremonies were performed to propitiate the Lemures or to check their power.
