Hessian Fly

Hessian Fly, a small brown fly known as Cecidomi/ia destructor (Gay), and belongs to the family Cecidomyidee. It (deposits its eggs on wheat plants. The maggots, when hatched, work their way down to the base of the leaves and there feed on the sap. Many authorities believe it was carried to America by the Hessian troops during the War of Independence, whence its popular name.

It now does serious damage in that country.
