Hamadan

Hamadan, a Persian town, in the province of Irak Ajemi, at, the foot of Mount Elwund, ISO miles W.S.W. of Teheran. It is supposed to stand on the site of the ancient Ecbatana, and contains the tomb of the philosopher Avicenna (q.v.). Leather is manufactured, and it is the centre of the carrying trade between Teheran and Ispahan on the east and Bagdad and Erivan on the west.
