Forres, a parliamentary borough of the Inverness group, in the county of Elgin, and 25 miles N.E. of Inverness. It is situated on a sandy height, and is clean, well-paved, and has good buildings. In the old castle Duncan was killed, and close by is the heath upon which Macbeth and Banquo met the witches. A monument, called Swend's Stone, is said to commemorate a victory over the Danes.
