Dobrovsky

Dobrovsky, Joseph (1753-1829), a learned Jesuit, who was born near Raab, in Hungary. He studied at the University of Prague, and became successively vice-rector and rector of the seminary of Hradisch, near Olmutz. He gave his attention specially to the study of the Bohemian language, literature, and history. He wrote an introduction to a German-Bohemian Dictionary, a system of the Bohemian language, and the plan of an Etymological Dictionary of Slavonic. He also wrote upon the old Slavonic dialects.
