Demetrius I

Demetrius I., surnamed Soter, was the son of Seleucus Philopater, whom he succeeded on the throne in spite of opposition. He engaged in a war against the Jews, and Judas Maccabaeus was killed in resisting him. He himself was put to death by a confederation of neighbouring sovereigns in 150 B.C.
