Cavalcaselle, Giovanni Battista, was born in 1820 at Legnago. He is chiefly known through the works written jointly with J. A. Crowe, whom he first met in Germany. These are Early Flemish Painters, History of Painting in Italy, Titian, and Raphael. He occupies the position of chief of the art department under the minister of public instruction in Rome.
