Capod Istriaor Cabodistrias John

Capo d'Istria, or Cabodistrias, John, Count, the son of a physician at Corfu, was born in 1776, and educated for his father's profession. When the Ionian Islands were ceded to France by the peace of Tilsit, he entered the Russian diplomatic service, and became foreign secretary in conjunction with Nesselrode. After the battle of Navarino he was elected president of the Greek republic, but as his fidelity was suspected, he was assassinated by political partisans at Nauplia, 1831.
