Biskra, or Biskara, a town and military post in the province of Constantine, Algeria, standing on the S. slope of the Aures Mountains, in a fertile valley watered by the Wady Biskra. It is an important depot for the caravan trade with the interior, has mines of iron and quarries of limestone and saltpetre, and is famous for its dates and carpets.
