Aretaeus

Aretaeus, a Greek physician, who flourished in Cappadocia either in the first or second century, A.D. It is said that he discovered the blistering properties of cantharides. He wrote a treatise, still extant, on the causes, symptoms, and cure of chronic and acute diseases, and therein he reveals, according to competent critics, quite as much ability as Hippocrates possessed.
