Adder

Adder, an alternative name for the Viper (q.v.). The word is also used with an epithet to denote some of Viperidae, as the Berg Adder (Vipera atropos) and the Puff Adder ( V. arietans) of South Africa, and the Death Adder (Acanthophis tortor) of Australia, all of which are extremely venomous.
