Actof Uniformity

Act of Uniformity (1662), the name given to that statute by which all ministers were required to give their assent to the Book of Common Prayer, and to read the morning and evening services from it. In consequence of this Act 2,000 clergymen resigned their livings. The Act of the same name passed in 1559 was directed against any persons who made use of any other form of prayerbook than Edward VI.'s Revised Prayer-book.
