Acanthus

Acanthus, a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the natural order Acanthaoeae, natives of South Europe. The large, handsome, deeply-cut, spinous leaves of the commonest species, A mollis, Bear's-breech, are supposed to have suggested the capital of the Corinthian column.
