Quirinal: The farthest north and the highest of the seven hills of ancient Rome, lying northeast of the Capitoline and northwest of the Viminal. It has its name from an old Sabine sanctuary of Quirinus (Mars). On the hill stands the palace of the Quirinal, the former summer palace of the pope.
