Piccadilly: The great thoroughfare in London between Hyde Park Corner and the Haymarket. The street was named from a house of entertainment (Piccadilly House) which stood in the Haymarket in the time of Charles I. The name originally comes from the picardils or small stiff collars once worn by English gallants.
