Palestine: From the Greek Paloestina, a name indicating that the Greek mariners first knew Canaan as the land of the Philistines inhabiting the coast. The latter arrived, probably from Cyprus, after the Hebrew conquest and before the time of Rameses III., on whose monuments they appear as Pulista.
