Lambeth Palace: The London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, situated in Lambeth, near the Thames, one and one-half miles southwest of St. Paul's. It was acquired by the archbishops in 1197. The present building was commenced in the Thirteenth Century. It contains a valuable library.
