Index | Ilium

Ilium: In ancient geography, a place in Mysia, Asia Minor, identified by the Greeks with the legendary Troy. It was frequently destroyed in prehistoric times; was rebuilt by Greek colonists in the Sixth Century B.C., and continued (as New Ilium) to late Roman times. Its site has been identified by Schliemann at Hissarlik, about 100 miles north by west of Smyrna.
