Libitina. An ancient goddess of Rome, who presided over the burial of the dead. At her temple at Rome everything necessary for funerals was kept, and persons might there either buy or hire such things. Hence a person undertaking the burial of a person (an undertaker) was called "libitinarius," and his business "libitina."
