White, Henry. American diplomat. Born at Baltimore, 1850. Educated privately in the United States and in France. Possessed of an ample fortune, he chose a diplomatic career, serving as secretary of legation at Vienna 1883-84, at London 1884-93, and again, 1897-1905. He was American ambassador to Italy 1905-07, to France 1907-09, and was special ambassador to Chile in 1910. In 1906 he headed the United States delegation to the Algeciras conference, concerning Moroccan affairs. In 1919 he was one of the American delegates to the international peace conference at Versailles.
