Swedenborg, Emanuel. Founder of the "New Church," was born in Stockholm, 1688. Occupied himself as a scientific engineer until 1743, from which time he began to write, when living in Sweden or England. Among his numerous works are "Arcana Coelestia," "De Cultu et Amore Dei," "The True Christian Religion," and several scientific treatises. Emanuel Swedenborg died in 1772.
