Fletcher (flech'ur), John. An English dramatist, whose name is inseparably associated with that of his friend and co-worker, Francis Beaumont. Fletcher was born in Northamptonshire in 1579. His plays, such as "The Scornful Lady" and "Rule a Wife and Have a Wife," were, during two centuries, the delight of the stage. Died 1625.
