Biography of Lamoral Egmont


Egmont, Lamoral. Count, Prince de Gavre, Flemish noble. Born in 1522. Egmont accompanied Charles V on his expedition to Africa (1541), and distinguished himself against the French in the battles of St. Quentin and Gravelines. Becoming obnoxious to Philip II, owing to his connection with the Prince of Orange, he was seized and executed by the Duke of Alva in 1568.
