Demetrius. Surnamed Poliorcetes, King of Macedon, was defeated near Gaza by Ptolemy in 318 B.C. He delivered Athens from Demetrius Phalereus, but the successors of Alexander defeated him at Ipsus in 301. In 294, Demetrius seized the throne of Macedonia, but was expelled in 287 and died in captivity, 283 B.C.
