Carson, Christopher. Popularly known as Kit Carson, an American frontiersman. Born in Kentucky in 1809. Kit Carson was a saddler's apprentice, trapper, hunter, guide in Fremont's explorations, lieutenant in the rifle corps of the army (1847), and Indian agent. During the Civil War, he rendered important services in the territories, and was brevetted brigadier general. Died 1868.
