Cheops, or Cheospes (tshe'-ops, tshe-os'-pes). King of ancient Egypt, who lived about 2800-2700 B.C. He built the great pyramid, spending immense sums in providing food for the workmen. He was considered a wise and powerful ruler. Various monuments bearing his name still exist, and to him the foundation of many temples has been ascribed.
