Bach (bak), Johann Sebastian. An eminent German musical composer. Born 1685. Became court organist at Weimar, and finally director of music at the School of St. Thomas, Leipzig. Bach was almost unrivaled as an organist. His works are thoroughly original, profoundly scientific, and most difficult of execution. Died 1750.
