Brown, Henry Billings. Associate justice of United States Supreme Court, 1890-1906. Born in South Lee, MA, March 2, 1836. Graduate of Yale, 1856. Studied law in private office; attended lectures at Yale and Harvard law schools. Deputy United States marshal, 1861-63. Assistant United States attorney for eastern district of Michigan, 1863-68; then, for a few months, to fill a vacancy, judge State Circuit Court of Wayne County. Practiced law in Detroit until 1875. United States judge for eastern district of Michigan, 1875-90. Compiler of Brown's Admiralty Reports. Died 1913.
