Allison, William Boyd, distinguished American legislator, born in Ohio, 1829. Educated at Western Reserve College and practiced law till 1857. Emigrated to Iowa. Served in the Civil War. Was sent to Congress while that struggle was going on, and remained in Congress as representative and senator from that time until his death in 1908, save in 1872-73. His influence was marked and salutary on the legislation of his day.
